Water and Electricity Minister Abdullah Al-Hussayen launched the first phase of operations at the world’s biggest desalination plant project costing SR27 billion.
The minister said that the Ras Alkhair plant was considered the biggest desalination plant in the history of SWCC (Saline Water Conversion Corporation) with production capacity of 1.025 million cubic meters of desalinated water a day and 2,600 MW of electricity.”
The plant located on the eastern coast, 60 km northwest of Jubail, will supply 800,000 cubic meters of water to Riyadh and 100,000 cubic meters of water to Al-Washm, Sudair, Majma, Alzulfi and Al-Ghat areas.
Hafer Al-Baten, Alqaisoomah and Qaryat Al-Olya will be supplied with 100,000 cubic meters of water.
The SWCC reached 86 percent of Saudization, the minister added.
