One of the reasons why people lose phone numbers and other details stored on their mobile phones is switching from one device to another. It is certainly annoying (or used to be) to transfer all contacts to the new device. Luckily, our modern smartphones can do that easily now without having to manually type the hundreds of names and phone numbers that you have saved over the years.
In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on moving contacts from iPhone to Android but you can apply most of them in principle to other mobile phones.
Sync your contacts
1. If you don’t have a Gmail account, create one before you start
2. Make sure you download iTunes on your laptop or computer
3. Plug your old iPhone into your computer and open iTunes
4. Use the menu bar at the top of the window of iTunes to navigate to the Info tab. You will see a list of syncing options
5. In the drop-down menu next to the “Sync Contacts With” box, select Google Contacts. Then type in your Gmail account information in the window that appears
6. After you’re done with the previous step, all your contacts from your phone’s contacts will be copied to your Google’s account
If you are switching from Android to iPhone. Follow these very simple steps:
1. Open “Settings” on your Android device
2. Go to “Accounts & Sync”, and ten tap on the Google account
3. Tap on “Sync Contacts” and let the syncing process complete
Modify your contacts
I suggest that you login to your Gmail after that to modify your contacts’ list as you may find some duplicates or wish to edit the contact details of some of your friends or acquaintances. The easiest way to do this is to let Gmail’s “merge contacts” tool merge duplicates for you. To do that, click on “more” near the upper-left area of the window while on your contacts page. When the drop-down menu appears, click on “find and merge duplicates”. Once done, Gmail will automatically search for duplicate contacts and merge them.
Import your contacts
Now that have your contacts ready to be transferred you have to boot up your new phone. It will ask you if you want to sync your phone to a Google account. Enter your Gmail info and your phone will automatically import all the contacts from your Gmail.
If this is not the first time you start up your phone, you will need to go to your “Settings” menu first. There, select the “Accounts & Sync” option, which will show you every account synced with your phone. At the bottom of the page you will see a button labeled “Add Account,” where you can enter your Gmail info. Once you have selected your Google account to sync with your phone it will not only sync all your contacts to your phone, but it will also automatically set up your email to be sent to your phone.
Thanks to Google’s elaborate services, especially Gmail, moving contacts from one phone to another has become super easy.
