Major shift in Indian politics

The election results in India show a drastic shift in Indian politics. It seems that India is no longer a secular country. Many people claim that people were fed up with the corruption during the Congress-led government and chose to elect the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is surprising that Indians did not even think that they were supporting a right-wing party with a poor track record. The BJP openly threatens minorities in India, particularly Muslims. Should we translate the results as a hike in anti-Muslim sentiments in India? When it comes to corruption, the BJP is no angel.
This trend is dangerous and indicates radicalization of Indian society. However, fears of communal riots as expressed by various writers and Muslim leaders are unwarranted. The BJP is not likely to stoke communal tensions during its rule. — Shabbir Shah, Dammam
