The King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) and Saudi Aramco have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at reinforcing volunteer work and social involvement.
The MoU was signed at KFUPM by Nasser Al-Nafisee, executive director for Saudi Aramco Affairs, and Muhammad Al-Homoud, KFUPM vice-rector for academic affairs. The event was attended by several officials from both sides.
The MoU also aims to establish a general cooperative relationship in developing joint efforts to set a model for voluntary work and community service based on international standards.
Both parties aspire to harness their resources, attract new knowledge in these scopes of work and find a fertile ground to cultivate the spirit of community service in the Kingdom, especially among youth, through a clear-cut strategic framework.
Al-Nafisee said that the MoU complements the strategic alliance between Saudi Aramco and KFUPM, which has achieved prominent success in the academic fields and scientific research in recent years.
“We now meet under the partnership umbrella for collaboration aspects between the academic and industrial institutions, especially Saudi Aramco and KFUPM, as they both have a keen desire to shift to a knowledge-based society and spread the culture of innovation and creation,” he said. Al-Homoud said that community service is one of the key pillars of KFUPM’s mission.
“The aim of this collaboration is to combine the complementary strengths existing in the academic community, including students, faculty, researchers, employees and their family members, with the strengths of Aramco’s community, including its employees, retirees and their family members, in order to achieve mutual interests through voluntary work and societal participation,” he said.
Both parties will collaborate under the MoU to set up key indicators in order to improve volunteer work performance and establish values and principles that promote national development efforts.
