The family of the police officer accused of sexual assault in Khurais in the Eastern Province has offered SR50,000 to the victim, Christian C. Aban, to drop the charge against him.
The accused had admitted his guilt earlier and expressed his desire for an amicable settlement. Aban told Arab News on Monday that the offer was made by the brother of the accused. However, he had not made any commitment to accepting the offer.
“It’s because I still have to discuss the issue with my sponsor, the Philippine Embassy and my wife who is in Jaro, Iloilo, in Western Visayas. After all, she and my two kids are the reasons why I am here,” he said.
On instruction from the Khurais police, Aban went to the Al-Azizia police station for a laboratory test on Sunday. He was accompanied by his company’s Saudi liaison officer.
“I underwent a blood test which is procedural for the resolution of the case. The accused had gone there on Saturday to undergo the same test,” Aban said, adding that he has decided to go home after his case has been settled.
The Philippine embassy told Arab News that the case is closely coordinated with his sponsor and advised Aban to decide what’s best for him and his family.
“We told him that he has options. We pledged our full support to him regarding his case,” an embassy official told Arab News, adding that if Aban does not agree to drop his complaint it will be filed in court for prosecution.
Aban arrived in the Kingdom on June 2, 2013 to work as a trailer driver for the Riyadh-based Al-Qhatani Transport & Contracting Est.
