What’s the best brush for you?

What’s the best brush for you?

Women’s hair need special treatment to maintain its shine and texture.
According to hair specialist Meryem Khan, a key issue in hair care is choosing the perfect hair brush. While the old ways of combing hair with fingers might help detangle it, she highlights the importance and many benefits of brushes. The trick, Khan says lies in knowing the best suited brushes for our hair as well as knowing when to use them.

1- A wide-toothed comb
This brush is more suitable for women with curly and wavy hair. For ideal results, women with curls need to only comb their hair when it’s wet. The wide tooth comb will style the hair easily and comfortably considering that the wet hair is very weak and fragile. This comb will not cause hair to fall which makes it suitable for all hair types when styling wet hair.
It’s also used to part hair.
2- The flat comb
The most commonly-used brush comes in two designs, the oval and the rectangular ones with a cushion under the teeth. It’s perfect for detangling thick hair, and should only be used when the hair is dry. Women who comb their hair on a daily basis should rely on the flat brush as it doesn’t damage hair and spreads the natural oil all over it.

3-The thermal brush
The semi-round metal brush is used to style hair in specific shapes. The heat from within helps give hair the wanted curls just like the way rubber curling hair rods work. It works better than the wooden round brush, explained below.

4-The wooden round brush
This brush works best on drying wet hair. The best types are the ones with spaced teeth because it will help spread hair.

5-The thin brush
This brush is one of the most important hair styling tools. It’s mostly used to calm frizzy hair that come up after combing it and help sooth hair when making a bun. It also helps boost hair volume by combing the inner hair layers downward toward the scalp.
All hairbrushes need caution and proper cleaning to help get rid of the dirt and oil residues. The last thing clean hair needs is a dirty brush.
Khan shares with Arab News readers the ideal method to clean hair brushes at home:
First: Remove excess hair from the brush. This can be done using a wide comb, a pen or a toothpick.
Second: Cleaning the brushes depends on the type of brush used. Soak plastic brushes in soap and water for two minutes. Brushes with cavities or the cushioned ones need extra care. Use shampoo on an old tooth brush and scrub the hair brush with it.
Third: Wash the hairbrush with warm water.
Fourth: Refrain from using it at least for one hour allowing it to dry completely. The cushioned brush can be hung to allow it to drip the water into the sink.
