JEDDAH: The Special Criminal Court sentenced a Saudi to 23 years in prison and banned him from posting anything on the Internet.
The preliminary ruling indicted the Saudi man for adopting takfiri ideology that runs counter to the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah, and for his terming leaders of the country, religious scholars and policemen as nonbelievers. The man was convicted of sedition for calling for the overthrow of the government. He was also found guilty of disloyalty to the rulers, pledging allegiance to Daesh and supporting terror acts inside and outside the Kingdom.
The court also convicted him of insulting the Kingdom’s rulers and scholars, interfering in the internal and external policies of the Kingdom, misleading public opinion by supporting those detained by security forces on terror charges, and describing them as oppressed.
The indictment had charged him with posting material detrimental to public order on Twitter, attempting to go to war zones and join Daesh through his communications with persons residing outside the Kingdom.
