UN’s role

This is with reference to the report “KSA backs call for urgent UN meeting on Syria” (Dec. 5). The United Nations’ inaction on Syria is not at all acceptable. The UN has become a tool in the hands of powerful nations. The UN should be restructured and powers of its Security Council should be curtailed. Steps should also be taken to prevent the misuse of the veto power. Why should the Security Council members be allowed to impose their will on the rest of the world? Ironically, it is the Security Council members that are responsible for many conflicts. If it were not for the veto power, the Palestinian issue would have been resolved or at least the situation would not have been so bad.
How do we expect the UN to take any concrete measure to resolve the Syrian crisis when a Security Council member has become party to the conflict?
The international community should look into this matter seriously. We should not allow the powerful nations to impose their will on weak or small countries.
