JEDDAH: To commemorate the 77th anniversary of the 77th Pakistan Day, the Pakistan Repatriation Council (PRC) last week held an event at the Mehran Restaurant.
The function, chaired by Ali Al-Ghamdi, a scholar and a former diplomat, commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by a presentation of poems (on the struggles faced by Pakistan) and the national anthem.
Al-Ghamdi spoke about the importance of March 23, 1940, when the Pakistan Resolution, which called for an independent state for Muslim Indians, was adopted.
He narrated the tale of how Pakistan’s founder of the nation Mohammad Ali Jinnah with thousands of his followers came together with a dream that nothing less than a separate country would be accepted. And after seven years, Pakistan was created. He said Pakistan is the pride of the Muslim world and that “we should all pray for its success, peaceful existence and solidarity.”
The program was hosted by journalist Syed Musarrat Khalil, who presented a write-up on the Pakistan Movement, which aimed for and succeeded in creating the nation. He also paid homage to Jinnah and other leaders.
Chief guest Syed Neaz Ahmed, president of Pakistan Writers Club, spoke about the hardships faced by the people before independence and how ultimately, Jinnah went on to accept the proposal of a separate homeland. He said we must educate the new generation about how their home state came into being.
A number of businessmen, socialites and speakers attended the event.
Raja Zareen of Kashmir Committee said that Kashmiris always supported the Pakistan Movement and prayed for its success. He said we all are part of Pakistan and support each other.
Mohammad Tayyab Mosani, general secretary of Pakistan Memon Association, paid tribute to the nation’s founder and said one should never lose hope and that Pakistan will reach newer heights in the coming years.
