DUBAI: A Chinese engineer has taken part in a faux marriage ceremony with a robot he created after he reportedly failed to find a human partner.
Zheng Jiajia, 31, is an artificial intelligence expert who lives in China’s Hangzhou, the Qianjiang Evening News reported.
He designed the robot in 2016 and named her Yingying. The robot is able to identify Chinese characters and say some simple words, the newspaper reported.
Zheng “married” the robot on Friday but the ceremony was not legally binding, according to the report.

On the big day, Yingying wore a black suit and a red scarf as a head covering in what is a traditional Chinese ritual.
The robot creator’s mother and friends were witnesses to the event.
According to the South China Morning Post, one of his friends told the Qianjiang Evening News that Zheng had grown frustrated after failing to find a girlfriend, leading him to resort to robotic measures.
