A group of Omani men arrested for allegedly arranging to marry underage girls in India in September 2017 say they were “wrongly accused,” Times of Oman reported.
Several of those who were arrested claim they were “medical tourists,” saying they already have Indian wives who they want to return to.
The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) who is following up the case said they had given financial assistance to the men.
“The Omani nationals accused in India were out on bail and are living in a hotel. Vice-Chairman of the OHRC, Yousuf Al Afifi, said.
The eight detainees were released on bail in November 2017.
“The commission is still communicating with the authorities in India to finish their trial and resolve the case,” Afifi said. An Indian court adjourned their hearing until April.
Meanwhile, the OHRC funded a hotel for the men.
