DUBAI: Sharjah police are telling motorists to keep their full attention on the road and to avoid any distractions.
The message comes as the police in the northern emirate shared footage of a car veering across a bend in the road and crashing into a post holding a camera monitoring traffic.

The police message did not mention what caused the driver to allow the car to veer off the road, but research in the country has revealed that the biggest distractions for motorists are children in the vehicle, mobile phone usage, and reaching for stuff while driving, as well as talking to passengers.
In recent years the emirates have launched campaigns to reduce the number of collisions and deaths on its roads, by introducing new laws and increasing existing penalties and fines.
There were 41 deaths on Sharjah’s roads in the first six months on 2018, meanwhile there were 525 fatalities on the UAE’s roads in 2017.
The Sharjah Police video ended with the message: “Don’t focus on anything but the road.”
