Pakistan International School Jeddah — English Section (PISJ-ES) recently organized an event to mark the 71st Independence Day of Pakistan.

The entire campus was festooned with green and white flags and balloons on the occasion, which was first celebrated on Aug. 14, 1947.

Members of the Pakistani community including students, parents and faculty members joined in to celebrate the national day.

Organizers said the main purpose of the event was to pay tribute to their ancestors who devoted and sacrificed their lives for Pakistan’s independence.

The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by national anthems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Principal Adnan Nasir said: “The emergence of Pakistan on the world’s map was not a matter of chance; it’s foundation has countless heroic stories to tell of all those freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives — heart-wrenching stories of devotion and commitment of the sons, fathers, stranded sisters and helpless mothers.”

He added: “While today is a day of celebration, it’s also a day to resolve to make little changes in our lives that would contribute toward making our nation great.”

The principal’s speech was followed by a presentation exhibiting the achievement of Pakistanis in different fields.
