ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces have rescued five of the 12 Iranian guards who were abducted by militants close to the Pakistan-Iran border in Balochistan on October 16.
“With the concerted efforts of the Pakistani Law Enforcement Agencies and armed forces, five abducted Iranian guards have been safely recovered,” Foreign Office spokesman Dr. Mohammad Faisal wrote in a message on Twitter on November 15. He said that the men were in good health and “are being handed over to Iranian authorities.”
He added: “Concerted efforts, under vigilance of the military leadership, are ongoing to recover the other guards.”
Iranian media reported last month that 12 members of an Iranian border security force had been abducted by militants near the border with Pakistan. According to reports, two of the men are members of the powerful Revolutionary Guard’s intelligence department. The others include seven members of the Basij force, a volunteer wing of the Guard, and regular border guards. The Iranian militant group Jaish Al-Adl claimed responsibility for the abductions.
