ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday sent his message of felicitation wishing the Hindu community in Pakistan a “happy and peaceful Holi.”

Pakistani Hindus began celebrating their traditional spring festival of “Holi” today with colors and festive vibes across the country.

The Pakistan Hindu Council held a colorful event on Wednesday at the Shri Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar.

“Pakistan Hindu Council this year dedicated Holi festival to Pakistan Day to acknowledge the successful Pakistan Movement,” Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, member National Assembly and patron-in-chief of Pakistan Hindu Council told Arab News.

“A large number of Pakistani Hindu families, holding national flags, will be present to demonstrate their love for our beloved motherland, Pakistan,” he added.

Vankwani also pointed out that members of Pakistan’s Hindu community had “played role in the independence of our motherland Pakistan.”

“Pakistan is our Homeland,” said he.

Holi wishes and messages of felicitation flowed on social media from officials and political leaders.

“Wishing our Hindu community a very happy and peaceful Holi, the festival of colors,” PM Khan tweeted.

“Our minorities have always contributed positively for Pakistan and InshAllah Pakistan won’t let them down,” wrote Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, as he wished the Hindu community saying, “festivities like these should be used to bring people closer.”

“Happy Holi to all my Hindu brothers & sisters. On the happy occasion of Holi, let us spread the wonderful message of peace and happiness,” tweeted Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Holi celebrations mark the end of winter and express gratitude for a good harvest.

The Hindu community in Pakistan makes up approximately 2 percent of the country’s population where majority of them live in Sindh province.
