ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan promised to announce his party's future course of action during a nationwide protest against rising inflation later today.
In a meeting on Saturday, Khan expressed concern over Pakistan’s ailing economy while pointing out that “oppression and force” would not prevent people from raising their voice against the new political setup.
The former premier was ousted from power in April after he lost his parliamentary majority and could not survive a no-confidence motion against him. He has since then been calling for fresh elections in the country.
“The current government does not care about the people or the future of the country,” The News quoted him as saying during the meeting.
Khan maintained the situation would “be out of control if the economy was destabilized.”
Last week on Thursday, the former prime minister asked his party workers and supporters to step out at 9pm on Sunday to protest against the sharp increase in the prices of essential commodities in the country.
Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party also announced the designated protest locations in all major urban centers in the country in a Twitter post on Saturday.
