GCC countries implement customs agreement

RIYADH, 9 January — GCC countries have started implementing a resolution taken by the GCC summit in 1999 on customs union. The GCC has classified 1,287 products into three categories -- 53 exempted from tariff, 534 basic products and 700 others. According to a statement by the GCC, a unified tariff of 5.5 percent will be imposed on the basic products and 7.5 percent on other products until March 2005.
