NEW DELHI, 21 July — A suspended TV serial which helped police in arresting criminals, was on the air again yesterday.
Producer and director Suhaib Ilyasi has returned to disturb the peace of criminals and anti-social elements with his popular serial “Fugitive, The Most Wanted”.
The first of its kind on the Indian small screen, Ilyasi had started the show on Zee TV as “India’s Most Wanted,” then shifted it to Doordarshan as “Fugitive, The Most Wanted”. Now the popular show which ropes in the general public to apprehend criminals, will be aired every week starting Aug. 20, on Jain TV. Confident of getting the same healthy response which he received from the public in the earlier days, Ilyasi said, “I hope the show will come back with a bang.” He described the program as “a mission against crime and corruptions.”
Ilyasi rose to instant fame following the shows’ success which helped the police in apprehending or shooting 45 hardcore fugitives, which included the killing of Uttar Pradesh’s most wanted outlaw Sri Prakash Shukla. Ilyasi’s program was discontinued after his wife Anju Ilyasi was found dead on Jan. 10, 1999 in his flat, and Ilyasi was arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife. Police are still insvestigating the case.
Ilyasi claims the police were harassing him following his wife’s tragic death. “Some of the politicians who are hand in glove with the criminals are behind this conspiracy to put me behind bars,” Ilyasi said.
