JEDDAH, 30 August — Mobile phone users in Jeddah have been experiencing interruptions when making and receiving calls over the past few days, mainly to the 054 and 053 lines.

A source at the Saudi Telecom Company has revealed to Arab News that this may be caused by transmission problems in the mobile phones network.

The problem is related to the introduction of the new server (05300), which will provide 75,000 lines. The huge expansion, which began last Saturday, has apparently led to the network being overloaded, resulting in it running very slowly.

The overloading has also led to a slowing down of transactions at STC branches, where the process of adding new services and reinstalling lines is taking more time than had been anticipated.

Asked about the poor service of the mobile phones coverage in certain areas in Jeddah, such as Al-Safa and Bawadi districts, during the last few days, a spokesman said: “The interruption had affected the whole network and so it can’t be different from one area to another.”
