JEDDAH, 17 December — Eight tons of firecrackers, worth SR1 million, have been seized from downtown Jeddah recently. The contraband, brought to the Kingdom through various entry points, belonged to a Saudi businessman. Civil Defense officials seized the fireworks and handed over the businessman to police for questioning, said Col. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, director of Civil Defense in Jeddah. Import and sales of firecrackers are strictly controlled by law.
