JEDDAH, 20 December — Registration for the next round of computer training for Filipinos in Jeddah and nearby places is now open, the OFW Cooperative Council said yesterday.
The six-Friday seminar will begin on the first Friday of January and will end on the second Friday of February.
OFWCC Vice Chairman Wenfred Castolome, who heads the education and training committee, said the sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Castolome said the Tropicana Restaurant along Tahlia St. is being eyed tentatively as the venue but the search continues for a place that would be offered free of charge.
Now on its 8th round since it was first launched in 1998, the Computer Literacy Seminar is being held under the auspices of the Philippine Consulate General Jeddah, in coordination with the POLO and OWWA offices.
The program has already produced close to a thousand graduates of the course.
In the coming seminar series, participants are expected to get hands-on training on the Windows Operating System during the first Friday, MS Word 2000 on the 2nd session, Excel 2000 on the third, PowerPoint on the fourth, Website/Internet Browsing on the fifth, and PC Assembly on the final day.
Rudy Carillo, an accredited Microsoft systems engineer, leads a pool of lecturers. He will be assisted by Ernie Geslani, Gary Paala, Jibril de Vera, Tani Delis, Danny Factoran, Eugen Delfin, Jamal Radia, Manny Alkuino, Ramil Vasquez, Leo Trijo and Ike Gallora.
The seminar is practically free of charge as the lecturers and assisting secretariat members are giving their time and expertise without any monetary remuneration.
Castolome said the only payment that participants would have to make are for the venue (with food), computer rental, hand-outs and the certificates. For those who can bring their own PC unit, the charge would be lower.
