DUBAI, 15 January — Leading Asia-Pacific airline Qantas Airways has successfully migrated to RAPID Cargo, the world-beating revenue accounting solution from Mercator, the Dubai-based IT division of the Emirates Group. The implementation, in conjunction with a new management reporting system developed by Qantas, is expected to improve Qantas Freight’s financial operations, providing vital management information and greatly improving productivity and cost-efficiency. A Mercator implementation team worked closely with Qantas in Sydney, Australia, to provide the technical resources and training essential to the successful launch. RAPID Cargo is an innovative revenue accounting solution, which has already won worldwide acclaim. It was developed to meet the fast-growing freight revenue accounting needs of major global airlines like Qantas. Its freight billing and accounting facilities ensure quick and accurate realization of cash and revenue due. Qantas, one of the best-known Asia/Pacific airlines, serves 138 cities in Australia, Asia, Pacific, Americas, Europe and southern Africa and carried some 22 million people last year. Qantas Freight, its specialized freight division, has been in business for more than 75 years. Qantas decided to upgrade its freight revenue accounting systems to improve management information and reporting, strengthen cost controls, and improve financial returns through better efficiency and productivity. This was achieved through the implementation of Scorpio, (the name for RAPID Cargo within Qantas) and the development by Qantas of a new management reporting system, Hugh Pride, director IT at the Emirates Group, said: “Mercator is proud to be working with Qantas, and we are delighted that the benefits of RAPID Cargo are already being enjoyed. Our professionals are dedicated to providing Qantas with the highest quality solutions, backed up by exceptional customer service and support, and we’re looking forward to further strengthening the relationship between our two companies.” Qantas is the latest airline to implement RAPID and joins Emirates, SriLankan, British Airways, Air New Zealand, Air Zimbabwe, Royal Air Maroc, Olympic, Grupo TACA, and Varig.
