Last Monday an emergency team of Al-Mujahideen force raided a full-fledged brewery in Farain, 30 kilometers east of Uhd Rafeeda, and arrested an expatriate worker for allegedly running the illegal factory. Abdullah Fajhan, head of the force, said they found the brewery by chance while passing by an apparently disused four-story building. The force confiscated a tank full of liquor, several bottles of arrack and material used for manufacturing liquor.

Also on Monday, an 18-year-old secondary school student in Feema, Asir, died in a road accident when his vehicle collided with the car of one of his teachers. The teacher was also injured, and rushed to hospital. In the same region on the same day, a year-old Saudi girl died and eight others were injured in a traffic accident on the Naeriya Road, and a Saudi man was killed and 18 others were wounded in two road accidents there on Monday.

On Thursday, a 22-year-old Saudi in Riyadh’s Areeja district shot dead his 26-year-old uncle. Soon after the shooting, the victim was taken to Prince Salman Hospital, where doctors tried in vain to save his life.

In Najran, two fires broke out on Friday — one at the housing complex of the Najran General Hospital nurses, the other at a gas station on King Abdul Aziz Street. Captain Saleh Al-Qahtani of the Civil Defense Department said his officers put out the fire at the housing complex within 25 minutes. The housing facility lacked safety equipment, he said, adding that the fire was caused by a gas leak. The fire at the gas station broke out meanwhile as a patrol police officer was filling his jeep. The officer suffered 35 percent burns.

A Saudi gunman who caused havoc among the public by randomly opening fire at passersby in Buraidah, northeastern Saudi Arabia, was arrested by police on Friday. The man was said to be mentally unstable.
