Jerusalem Media and Communication Center (JMCC) was established in 1988 by a group of Palestinian journalists and researchers to provide information on events in the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip.
The organization’s daily briefings have been online for the past year. JMCC’s Jerusalem and Gaza offices furnish a wide range of services to journalists, researchers, international agencies, individuals and organizations interested in obtaining reliable information on the Palestinian territory.
Available information includes daily press summaries, public opinion polls, research reports, and maps. There are numerous links at jmcc.org to other reliable resources on Palestine.
Reports available on JMCC’s homepage cover current issues, from a statistical profile of residents in the Jenin Refugee Camp to eyewitness accounts from Bethlehem.
An extremely interesting posting is “Destruction of Palestinian Public Institutions: First Preliminary Report,” released April 13, 2002 by the Palestine Emergency Committee.
The report is a very preliminary inventory of damage done to Palestinian public institutions by the Israeli army in the course of its invasion of Palestinian cities and villages that began March 29th. The report reads: “Even the initial findings indicate several disturbing patterns with very grave consequences.
In particular, institutions of the Palestinian Authority have been subjected to a consistent pattern of incursions, which focus on seizure of records and financial resources and destruction of technical infrastructure. There has been a consistent pattern of seizure of documents, hard disks from computers, paper files as well as widespread vandalism. In addition... seizing of equipment which has no informational or intelligence value, as well as some theft of money.”
