Fall of favorites continues in a day of upsets at CCC ties

JEDDAH, 26 April — In a battle that reflected hard-fought atmosphere, the seasoned players Marvin Franco of Al Bashawri Optical suffered impediment from Emad Al Habeeb of Saudi Arabian Airlines. Ramon Andrada of ABV Rock lost due to time out to Irshad Hussain of Trans Desert and Ali Saif of Al Hilal Est. waylaid Michael Sangalang of King Faisal Naval Base by the seaside.

Anselmo Seidel of Al Obiri Rent-A-Car took the lead after the 5th round without a loss in the ongoing Phase One of the third series of Community Chess Club Amateur single round robin. The last stage will be the Stepladder Knockout final.

The final will be the best-of-two games — one white and one black, 30 minutes to each player or equivalent to one hour per game and will follow FIDE active rules.

In the playoff, it will be sudden-death under faster time control (15-15 minute). The pole leader or white pieces must win while a draw is victory for black. The matches will be played on every Friday starting 2:00 p.m. at Community Chess Club.

Amateur chess players can now register for Series Four.
