RIYADH, 10 May — Twin brothers Arjay and Anjo Suarez of D’Specialists team bounced out at 8-2 Ramon Garra and Ramon Guevarra with total team score of 39-38 during the sixth week of the Spring Tennis Challenge 2002 Team Tennis Tournament of the Association of Filipino Tennis Players (AFTP) in Riyadh at the Al Yamama Hotel Sports Complex, Riyadh every Thursday and Friday from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m.
Ramik Kanico and Dong Elic tripped Cesar de Vera and partner at 5-8 in the second game. Lito Errua and Dong Tabotabo silenced Daniel Valdez and Ver Corvera at 2-8. Zulfikar Minhas and Arjay Suarez stole the thunder at 8-5 against Mar Magbanua and Ben Gonzales in the fourth game. Lito Lico and Pravo Devadas grabbed a hat trick at 8-1 against Larry Constantino and Lindi Nombrado. Ed Jarin and Frankie Bajala whacked Mario Torrefiel and Kenneth Tulio at 8-5 in the last game.
The Tie Breakers-2 outscored the Drop Shots at 46-29. Boy Rogel and Ramon Eugenio celebrated their first victory at 8-4 against Ato Gomez and Raul Optima. Feras Shaltaf and Manny Delimos struggled to win at 8-3 against Allan dela Cruz and Sonnie Cuyugan in the second game. Allan Ponzones and partner clawed at 8-3 Ray Axalan and Mohd Siraj tried to stop at 8-5 Nelson Martinez and Danny Bravo. Noli Orejas and Zaldo Ostol played their best by defeating Bert Cacho and Robert Manese at 8-6. Hisham Hizazi and Majed Shaltaf couldn’t find their game going when Cesar Unabia and Arly Leyes blocked them at 6-8 in the last game.
Subok Lang team emerged powerful against D’Crisscrossers at 43-26. Jigs Garcia and Rod Parco ignited the court at 8-7 against Ernan Santiago and Ramon Montales in the first game. Gil Cruz and Ernan Santiago shocked Ting Banday and Jun de Vera at 3-8 in the second set.
Ariel Quijano and Jessie Hermano played superb strokes and put an 8-4 win against Jimmy Beringuel and Ahbet Bagay. Lito Ladio and partner dismissed at 8-2 Fred Santos and Noel Ordonez in the fourth game. Darwin Suson and partner overpowered Gil Cruz and partner at 8-2, while Mark Musca and John Valencia sank at 8-3 Allan Malawanda and Jollie Boy de Guzman in the last set.
The Al Mohr Cargo routed the rookies’ team of Siemens Group at 48-27. Six matches’ pairs of Rudy Alberto/Banny Esmenos, Elmer Aquino/Edward dela Cruz, Manny Tapnio/Banny, Ely Serva/Louie Ignacio, Butch Bautista/Bogs Tagpuno, Allan Abrilla and Jimmy Udaundo prevailed over their opponents.
E-Launchers team tamed at 39-35 the Lob and Volley Team. The usual first doubles pair of Manny Tapnio and Alvin Guinto scored a power play goal at 8-2 against Noli Orejas and Nelgar Barao. Pons Orebello and Rene Tabing succeeded the tandem of Gerry Trazo and Bogs Mendoza at 8-7 tiebreaker game. Danny Madrillejo and Alfred Pastolero were not able to overcome a terrible start at 5-8 against Peter Manalo and Eddie Galvez in the third game. Art Jovellano and Bert Barriga, Jr. were overtaken by Paul Pagulayan and Thad Flores at 3-8. Jojo Caguan and Chito Abreau lost to a tie-breaker game 7-8 against Ricky Marquez and Jerry Trazo. Bert Barriga came back with Marc dela Cruz and attacked at 8-2 Bernie de Castro and Rommel Masingkil in the last doubles game.
Earlier during the day one matches, Passing Shots sailed over D’Hornets at 45-31. Brothers Arjay and Anjo Suarez dominated the duo of Jimmy Perfas and Tisoy de Leon in the backcourt at 5-8 in the opening set. Fidel Lozano and partner beat at 8-7 Jaime Balala and Jun Evangelista. Faisal Ziauddin and Linto Anolacion blazed the court with their high games at 8-4 against Nilo Kong and Jimmy Formilleza in the third game. Fidel Cecogo and partner outmaneuvered at 8-3 Saleh Al Zahrani and partner. Hibshi Ahamat and Richard Lucardi toppled at 8-3 Ardee Diaz and Jimmy Isla in the fourth game. Jet Panganiban and Rene Suarez took full advantage as they beat Ronnel Argosino and Rodel Salvatierra at 8-6 in the last doubles game.
Live Wires-2 proved too good when they nailed at 48-29 D’Millennium team. The first pair of John Valencia and Gener Marasigan closely won a tie-breaker game at 8-7 against Ding Verdan and Omar Pesebre while Khalid Al Bahali and Rene Andes stormed 8-1 Rodel Valerio and partner.
Clark Minoza and Fredie Corporal showed their elegant games and clipped at 8-4 Tim San Gabriel and Jerry de Guzman in the third game. Robert Drequito and Nilo Eugenio showed their best game and surprised at 8-1 Cris and Karim Dennoui. Godo Sarmiento and Lando Nazareno also succumbed at 8-1 Roy Oraa and Mario Abrasaldo. Ben Torrefiel and Mario Marimon rode their luck when they defeated at 8-6 lefty Ricky Cayetano and Paul Caballero in the last game.
WRJ Cargo Services sailed over Thunderstick at 43-28 where Ben Gonzales and Mar Magbanua toppled at 8-1 Fred Cadavero and Louie Blanquera, while Larry Constantino and Ruben Garcia were nailed at 5-8 by rookies Cris Legaspi and Fred Cadavero in the second set.
