OFW drivers co-op elects new officers

JEDDAH, 4 October — A co-operative of Filipino drivers in Jeddah have elected their new set of officers last weekend.

Named as new officers of the Multipurpose Cooperative – Transport Drivers/Non-Transport were:

Joe Paduga, chairman; Joel Dagdag, vice chairman; Arthur de Luna, secretary; Joam Remegio, assistant secretary; Andy Fernando, treasurer; Roger Solamo and Roy Antonio, assistant treasurers; Romel Romano, auditor; Alexander Restor, assistant auditor; Rito Camenades and Boni Velasques, PRO.

The other officers are: Sgts.-at-Arms – Orlando Arellano, Jovencio R. Olangco, Felipe Liatagan; Board Members – Eric Alegado, Max Cabual, Mhel delos Santos, Luis Leporada, Raffy Apostoles, Nick Tadeo, Jhun Mendiola.

Various committees were formed with the following members: Membership – Epifanio Mabag Fred Marturillas and Fernando Lacsina;

Inventory and audit – Rodolfo Gamueda, Conrado Menor and Roy Antonio;

Credit and Collection – Sotero Sabio, Manuel Agcaoili, and Elizer Magturtur;

Education – Joel R. Dagdag, Arthur de Luna and Andy Fernando;

Welfare and Protection – Noli Hipolito, Domingo Balod, Walter Ceupiver, Rudy Seguros and Antonio Tallod.

The proceedings of the election was supervised by a team from the Alyansa headed by the umbrella organization’s secretary-general, Jibreel de Vera. The team included Caesar Lontok, Meliton Negrido and Ernie Cantal, all from Power Group, also an allied member of Alyansa.

The transport cooperative was reorganized to strengthen its membership and their members’ welfare and re-integration programs.

Proposed changes on their existing constitution and by-laws were also deliberated after the election which was interrupted only by a luncheon prepared by the cooperative members themselves.

During the discussion, de Vera mentioned the importance of the drivers group in the dissemination and gathering of OFW information to and from distant areas in Jeddah in particular and the Western Region in general.

He was referring the the database project that Alyansa had committed to organized through the Philippine Mission in Jeddah.
