RIYADH, 12 October — Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, will launch new industrial and development projects worth SR35 billion in Jubail tomorrow, according to Prince Saud ibn Abdullah, chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.
Prince Saud welcomed the crown prince’s visit to the Eastern Province and said it is a major turning point in the commission’s history. He highlighted the tremendous progress achieved by the twin industrial cities over the past years, adding that their products account for 60 percent of the country’s total domestic industrial product.
“The two industrial cities have also contributed to increasing Saudi Arabia’s share in global petrochemical market to 57 percent,” he said. The Royal Commission also provides 86,000 jobs at its various industrial units.
Prince Abdullah will lay the foundation stone for Jubail Technical Institute and the expansion project of King Fahd Industrial Port. He will also open a number of water projects in addition to road and bridge projects and Al-Fanatir Recreation Center.
Prince Abdullah, who is scheduled to arrive in Dhahran today at the start of a several-day inspection tour, will attend a graduation ceremony at the Institute of Technical Studies under the Air Force in the Eastern Province today.
Maj. Gen. Khaled Rafie, commander of the institute, said graduates of the institute’s four courses from 95th to 98th would receive certificates during the ceremony. The graduates include officers from Bahrain and Qatar.
Prince Abdullah will have an open dialogue with students of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran.
Prince Abdullah will also inaugurate the fifth phase of the university’s campus project as well as its new workshop for oil refining technology. He will also attend the university’s 40th anniversary celebrations and lay the foundation for an industrial research complex.
During his tour, Prince Abdullah is scheduled to open a large number of projects in the region including the Hawiya gas plant, King Abdul Aziz Military City, a 300-bed King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Al-Ahsa and a 100-bed hospital in Dammam.
