JEDDAH, 27 December 2002 — In Division-I of the Kanoo Friday League, sponsored by the Kanoo Group and organized by Jeddah Cricket League, 4 matches were played. Kanoo Travels had a nail- biting finish against UNASCO, while Ace Travels, Al-Sharif Shalimar and Tamer were victorious over Afkar Promo-7, Adamjee Insurance and Attar Travels respectively. The summarized results of these matches are as follows: Kanoo Travels scraped through a victory against UNASCO by 2 runs.
Kanoo Travels toiled to combine 165 for 9 in 18 overs. Arif from UNASCO grabbed 4 for 28 while Tanveer took 2 for 26. In reply, UNASCO reached 163 just 2 runs short of the target. Losing three wickets cheaply at the early stage Zahid (42) played under pressure. Tanveer (31) and Ramzan (25) were other notable batsmen. Najam and Rashed from Kanoo Travels took 2 wickets each for 28 and 32 runs respectively. In a low scoring match, Ace Travel defeated Afkar Promo-7 by 18 runs. The winners clubbed 131 for 8 in 18 overs. Salim (24), Sajid (23) and Shaukat (18) were the main contributors. Khalil from Afkar Promo-7 took 2 for 11.
Afkar Promo-7 were bundled out for 113, in which, Azhar (33) was the only batsman of note. Shehzad from Ace Travels chopped off 4 for 26, Ashfaq 3 for 5 and Mubashir took 2 for 27. Al-Sharif Shalimar won over Adamjee Insurance by 26 runs. Batting first, Shalimar scored 150 in their allotted 18 overs. Zain hit 4 boundaries in his 57 while Abdullah scored 38 runs. Qadeer from Adamjee economized 5 for 7 and Azeem took 2 for 30.
In reply, Adamjee managed 124 for 8, in which, Imran (42) and Shafiq (25 n.o.) were the main batsmen. Zain displayed an all round performance with 3 wkts for 21 and Tariq took 2 for 13. Tamer had an easy victory against Attar Travel by 7 wickets. Attar scored 128 all out in 20 overs, in which, Qaddafi (45) and Gufran (27) were the main scorers. Ahsan Rafai and Almas captured two wickets each for 23 and 31 runs respectively for Tamer. In reply, Tamer reached the target for the loss of 3 wickets.
