JEDDAH, 20 January 2003 — A group of 270 Philippine pilgrims landed at the Haj Terminal of King Abdul Aziz International Airport here on Saturday night. “This marks the second group from the Philippines. The first group comprising 250 pilgrims arrived earlier,” Philippine Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla told Arab News yesterday. Guinomla said about 3,000 Filipinos are expected to perform Haj this time. Asked why the figure has come down by 40 to 50 percent compared to the previous years, the ambassador said: “It indicates the prevailing economic situation in the country.” (KSR)
