ABU DHABI, 1 February 2003 — All emirates in the United Arab Emirates will enforce a 2,000-dirham visit visa bond as soon as a mechanism for implementation of the rule is finalized, a newspaper reported yesterday quoting a senior immigration official.
Brig. Hader Khalaf Al-Muhairi, director general of Naturalization and Residency, said his department, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and Industry, was working on a mechanism for collection of the deposit, according to the Khaleej Times.
Once finalized, the rule, which is currently being implemented by the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department, will be enforced by other emirates.
Muhairi said Dubai had implemented the rule as it already has a fee collection system. He clarified that the decision was issued by the Ministry of Interior to be implemented at the federal level with the aim of curbing violation of the entry and residence law in the country.
