JEDDAH, 12 February 2003 — Urdu poet Mohammed Mujahid Syed launched his first collection of poetry “Harf-e-Motabar” (The Trusted Word) at a reception in Jeddah recently.

Presided over by the Editor in Chief of Arab News, Khaled Al-Maeena, the occasion was marked by recitations from the new work and addresses by guests.

The event was hosted by Idara Sahaab Literary Society.

Rashid Ansari, a journalist and writer in the Kingdom for 20 years, sent a paper from India highlighting the influences in Mujahid’s life which contributed to the book’s themes, especially his linguistic and religious roots.

On a personal note, Al-Maeena praised Mujahid as a colleague and friend “whose heart always throbs for Muslims and whose pen is always active for the Ummah or journalism.”

Dr. Ausaf Ahmed traced the linguistic roots of Mujahid’s work, pointing out that the cultures around the rivers Ganges and Jamuna influenced the structure and content of his poetry.
