NEW DELHI, 10 June 2003 — The Indian cricket team yesterday suffered a setback for next season when physical trainer Adrian Le Roux dumped them and signed up with his native South Africa.
Le Roux, largely credited with the increased fitness levels of the national team, particularly of pacemen Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra, has reportedly signed a two-year contract with the South African cricket board. Following India’s fine performance to reach the final of this year’s World Cup, the Indian board offered another year’s contract to Le Roux.
Top officials said the news of Le Roux’s decision to return home to South Africa was unexpected. Le Roux joined the Indian team over a year ago, the first time a physical trainer was signed in addition to a physiotherapist.
India have a busy schedule from September onward with New Zealand due to visit for a two-Test series followed by a triangular series also featuring Australia.

In Karachi, Bangladesh’s cricket team needs to improve its attitude if it does not want be a laughing stock in international cricket, the team’s former Pakistani coach said yesterday.
“There is a serious lack of attitude in Bangladesh cricket and if they do not set their goals, cricket will continue to suffer and be mocked by the international community,” Pakistan’s Mohsin Kamal, a former pace bowler who was sacked as Bangladesh coach, told AFP.
He was reacting to the findings of an inquiry by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) into the team’s dismal showing in this year’s World Cup.
