RIYADH, 20 June 2003 — Siemens Communication Group team of Choy Sanz and Jonathan Del Pilar outhit the Saudi Allied Company for Insurance & Reinsurance (SACIR) team of Eric Ocampo and Ben Baricuatro at 47-27 during the 105th Philippine Independence Day Anniversary tennis tournament of the Association of Filipino Tennis Players (AFTP) in Riyadh played at the sprawling Al Yamama Hotel Sports Complex.
The Equalizers team of Marlon Dela Cruz and Ben Formento tied the series at 38 all with the Tamia sponsored Supreme Smashers group of Melvin Abarquez and Arnel Tapay. The hospital crew of Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City team of Romy Noceja and Ding Verdan posted a 40-35 victory against the Les Banquiers rookies of Bong de Leon and Allan Cotoco.
Early matches at the center court saw the Laguna Tennisters of Mario Torrefiel and Lito Errua win convincingly over the reinforced Pace-Setters group of Clifford Mendez and Joey Salem at 45-33. However, the Shotmakers team of Gerry de Guzman and Mario Abrasaldo moved down the Al Faisaliah’s Awalnet-Ters team of Edward Gangat and Hernan Santiago at 41-35. The Volleygators-2A team of Jigs Garcia and Ting Banday were overtaken by the Lucky Shots squad of Robert Romero and Dante Pozas at 34-42. The Volleygators-2B and the Aero Balls had exciting and thrilling games when they tied at 36 all at court 5 in the B/C Category. The front runner D’Patriot Builders team of Edwin Sajonia and Larry Berroya stroked out the Bankers at 38-35. The Smart Shots team of Rey Beninsig and Neal Perez managed a 39-35 victory against the Blockbusters team of Melvin Abarquez and Richard Ramirez. The Power Brokers managed by Felix Pacleb and Lito Hufana roused their group from torpor to set up an explosive score of 46-26 against the Shotmakers team. The Laguna Tennisters prevailed over the Eskan Patriots at 46-36.
The Limvudocie headed by Ed Galvez and Fidel Ulan powered away the Passing Shots team at 44-35 in court 5. The Aces & Faults of Rey Beninsig and Rene Suarez ousted the Volleygators-2A at 43-28 in a straight forward power display of their tactics.
The Friends team captained by Ace Espiritu and Bogs Gonzales kept their winning streak going with a 45-41 victory against the Blockbusters group. DQ Hunks team of Bert Oliva and Cesar Unabia took advantage by beating RTC-D’Royal Balls at 40-33.
