Tech Data FZ-LLC marked the mid-point of its “Around the World in 60 Days” summer promotion campaign and confirmed that the campaign has beaten the across-the-board summer slump in the regional IT industry with a stunning 30 percent sales gain.

“We’re totally delighted,” said Tech Data Managing Director Steve Lockie. We’ve put a lot of effort behind this campaign, and it’s great to see it achieving real, solid results for the industry as a whole.”

Communications equipment vendor US Robotics has posted quarter on quarter growth of over 150 percent during the campaign. Strong sales growth for HP, Cisco, Symantec, APC and Microsoft have shown that the campaign has delivered real benefits among the big name brands, with many recording month on month growth at rates of 40 percent and above.

The promotion focuses on both giving incentives to the reseller channel and providing direct to end user promotional benefits with the aim of beating an annual summer slump in regional technology sales of some 18 percent across the board. With year on year sales growth of above 30 percent in June 2003 against June 2002, Tech Data is also predicting similar growth in July — which would result in a record summer performance for the Middle East technology industry.

“Our original aim was to take that summer sales drop down to single digits this year,” said Tech Data marketing director Eliot Shepherd. “We’ve already exceeded that aim by far and there’s still strong growth in the channel.”
