JEDDAH, 8 August 2003 — “There is always the next race,” said Saudi Rally Dream team driver Ahmad Sabban after luck deserted him at the recent Jordan International Rally.
Speaking of his bad luck in Jordan following a positive result in the earlier Lebanon Rally, Sabban said following Lebanon he was very optimistic in Jordan but the engine of his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7 could not take the heat of Amman’s summer.
“I finished second on the first round but my Lancer suffered an engine failure that ended my race in the second round. Everyone in the rally had a problem because of the heat, leaving at least ten drivers with no option but to retire from the event,” Sabban said.
“It is another lesson that you learn about rallying, and the good thing about this event is that I have learned so much for the future. We are still a very new team and should still be proud of everything we have done so far and I am sure that we have some good times ahead,” he added.
Sabban will start preparing for the Syria International Rally in September in Damascus, and hopes to better his Lebanon effort. Driving his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7 he took fourth place in the Group N Middle East Rally Championship round in Lebanon. Sabban praised the great role his sponsors - Al Rabie Saudi Foods Co. Ltd and Middle East Broadcast Center (MBC) - have played to support the Saudi Rally Dream Team.
