Tabuk's Film Criticism Forum to discuss power of CGI artistry

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's Film Commission is organizing a Film Criticism Forum in Tabuk on Sept. 7, with a focus on the theme of "Technology and the Film Viewing Experience." The event will take place at the University of Tabuk.

The commission has extended an invitation on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the message: "Discover the expansive cinematic universe within the realm of audiovisual technologies at the upcoming #FilmCriticismForum in Tabuk. Join us: https://engage.moc.gov.sa/film-criticism-forum-tabuk."

The one-day program will commence with a workshop titled "Introduction to the World of VFX," conducted by the renowned international film producer, Chadi Abo.

Leveraging his extensive 22-year experience in Hollywood movies, Arabic productions, and international co-productions, Abo will provide a comprehensive overview of the VFX production profession.

Following the workshop, the event will include talks and a panel discussion, with one of the talks being titled "Wind, Water, Sand, and Fire: Atmospheric CGI from Film to Virtual Reality," presented by Nehal El-Hadi. During this session, El-Hadi will explore the captivating transformation of atmospheric CGI, mapping its progression from traditional film to the mesmerizing realm of virtual reality.

In the next session, Rania Gaafar will lead the audience on a captivating journey into the realm of visual futurisms and the lasting importance of images in the digital era, through her speech titled "Speculative Forms: Visual Futurisms and the Life of Images."

A vibrant panel discussion, titled "Bridging Perspectives," will bring together El-Hadi and Gaafar, allowing them to delve into the overlapping aspects of their respective topics.

Furthermore, there will be an interactive artist's conversation featuring Ahaad Alamoudi and Effat Abdullah Fadag. They will provide valuable insights and share their extensive experiences in the field of CGI artistry.

The event also includes a screening of the classic film "Blade Runner" (1982), directed by Ridley Scott, followed by a panel discussion led by film enthusiasts Abdullah Alokiby and Aziz Mohammed.

This program promises an enthralling exploration of the CGI world, covering everything from atmospheric effects in films to futuristic visual elements. It also offers a deep dive into classic films, accompanied by insightful commentary from experienced film enthusiasts.

The program serves as a tribute to the world of cinema, honoring both the films and filmmakers. It also celebrates the technologies that have facilitated the evolution of cinema, from traditional 35mm to immersive virtual reality, shaping the ever-changing landscape of the film industry.
