WAGAH, 14 September 2003 — Twelve top Pakistani business leaders yesterday arrived in India after crossing the Wagah border at the invitation of local businesspeople. The delegation is visiting India at the behest of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
“This is a goodwill visit to India to set grounds for more cordial liaison between the two neighboring nations India and Pakistan, keeping in view the tremendous unexplored economic potential, to accelerate the mutual business and trade relations,” Amin Hashwani, a member of the team said.
“We have purely a business tour in India and have nothing to do with the politics going on between the two nations,” he added.
A number of private delegations, including politicians, have moved between India and Pakistan since Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee offered a “hand of friendship” to archrival Pakistan in April.
The Confederation of Indian Industry has taken the lead to accelerate mutual business and trade relations by inviting the delegation consisting of CEOs and business executives.
