Saudi American, Solomon Awardees in Interbank Tilt

RIYADH, 19 September 2003 — Saudi American Bank (Samba) team keglers showed the form that made them back-to-back team of the week holders while Freddie Solomon proved he too was a serious contender for an award, when they clinched the coveted team of the week and best bowler of the week honors respectively in the 14th week of the Interbank Tenpin Bowling League 2003 Conference being played at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.

The league is sponsored by the Philippine Airlines (PAL). Bert Lopez along with support from Tenz Taeza, Allan dela Rosa and Fred Lim powered Samba past the WWW.Shbonline.Com (376-240). Lopez started hot in the opener to roll 200 and another convincing 212 and 210 in the second and third games but managed 126 in the third. Lopez, taking advantage of his 20 handicap per game toppled a four game series of 828 to edge Freddie Solomon for the bowler of the week award.

Taeza, team captain Dela Rosa and Lim posted separate four game series of 789, 781 and 767. Teammates Ed Robillos and Ferdie Maramag contributed separate two game series of 376 and 322. The Samba quintet garnered an overall team series handicap of 3,863 pinfalls. Bert Sabinay, Efren Castro and Ben Cariaga led Shbonline with a separate four game series of 790, 759 and 754. Gil Hembra toppled 734 series in four matches while Rodel Yap scored 708 series in four outings. The Shbonline team keglers submitted 3,744 points.

The league leaders, Philippine National Bank Unified Team defeated the Saudi British Bank-Sabbinvest (320-110) to stay in the numero uno spot. Joel Purificacion shot a series of 818 to lead PNB with Mike Sharif at 737, followed by Jun Pineda (726). Nante Paralejas scored a series of 517 in three games while Sonny Alviso had a series of 444 in two games. Ben Torrefiel rolled 358 series in two sets, Usman Navarro chipped in with 145. PNB-Unified Team registered 3,745 points.

For the Saudi British Bank-Sabbinvest, leading were the trio of Jun Jabonero, Rey Dela and Ruel Barayoga. Jabonero and Dela fired a series of 749 and 746 while Barayoga shot 743 series. Willy Pamilaran tallied a series of 551 while Vic Marzo and Nelson Complido hit 334 and 326 respectively. Leny Sehiyo had 166 as Sabbinvest garnered 3,615 points.

The Sama-SBM/IBM recorded a 240-50 victory over the Saudi British Bank- Sabbnet with Teody Zulaybar snatching 813 series in four games. Bernie Torres, Guilbert Masias and Clem Guelas hit separate four game series of 740, 711 and 708.

Remy Generales scored 482 series in three sets. Ramon Sadang and Luis Bonguit top-scored in Sabbnet by carding a separate four game series of 672 and 668 pinfalls. Ramil Espiritu, Danny Castro and Jojo Dimalig toppled a series of 658, 641 and 618. Bowler of the week awardee, Freddie Solomon lifted Banque Saudi Fransi to wallop the Saudi Investment Bank (210-140).
