DAMMAM, 10 November 2003 — While promising to give all the support needed by their children and their school, parents and teachers of the Philippine School in Dammam (PSD) are also getting ready to share their blessings with calamity victims at home.
The Parent-Teacher Association Council (PTAC) of PSD said the humanitarian component of their project for the year is a continuation of their campaign for donations to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC). “We will continue to support the PNRC’s cause, which is to help victims of natural and man-made calamities in the Philippines,” said Lorenzo Obero, this year’s PSD-PTAC president.
During the previous schoolyear, the parents and students of PSD played a lead role in the Eastern Province in the fund-raising and collection of used clothes and toys, which were sent to the Red Cross in Manila. The school raised $1,700, of which $1,300 went to the PNRC and the rest for transporting boxes of used clothes and old toys.
Obero said that the PTAC will also be sponsoring trainings and workshops for PSD students on leadership, journalism, and speech clinics.
The new set of officers were inducted by Labor Attaché Manuel Roldan during the school’s combined celebration of the United Nations Day and the late observance of the “Language Month” in October.
Students in all levels performed songs and dances depicting the diverse cultures and traditions of the Philippines. Also gracing the event were school principal Lita Rulloda and the school governing board led by its chairman, Romeo Novelles.
The PTAC officers for schoolyear 2003-2004 are Lorenzo Obero, president; Noel Obras, vice president; Leonarda Mendoza, secretary; Nenita Paredes, treasurer; Raquel Arana, auditor; Rosita Balisoro, press relation officer.
The school level representatives are Arthur Caliboso, nursery; Amira Marietta Baniquet, kinder-a.m.; Mar Gaspar, kinder-p.m.; Estrelita Suarez, preparatory; Glenn Gutay, lower elementary; Danilo Paredes, upper elementary, and Rodolfo Panlilio, high school.
