KUWAIT CITY, 2 December 2003 — Kuwait’s Parliament yesterday ratified 10 economic cooperation agreements with a number of Arab countries perceived as having sided with Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait, Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi said.
The pacts were approved despite stiff opposition from a group of MPs, headed by former Speaker Ahmad Al-Saadun, who wanted the concerned countries to officially apologize for supporting former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein during his country’s seven-month occupation of the emirate.
The agreements cover the promotion of investment, avoiding double taxation and technical cooperation between Kuwait and Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria and Sudan. They also include two agreements with Syria.
