Bahrain to Invite Bids for Power Plant

MANAMA, 31 January 2003 — The Bahraini government will next month invite bids for the first power plant to be built by the private sector at a cost of up to $600 million, an official said yesterday. “The plant will have a capacity of 1,000 megawatts a day and will become operational in 2006. It will cost between $500 million and $600 million,” Mahmud Al-Kawhaji, director of government shareholdings at the Finance and Economy Ministry, told AFP.
