According to IDC figures for the third quarter of 2003, HP maintained its position as the No. 1 vendor of desktops and mobile computing products across the Middle East and the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region as a whole. With a year-on-year growth of 16 percent, HP landed first place, ranking a 23.2 percent market share in the desktop and mobile portfolio, followed by the next runner-up at a mere nine percent. The company increased its market leadership over rivals to 32.4 percent in the Middle East in the mobile market, ranking at least 10 percentage points ahead of the next competitor. Earnings in Saudi Arabia gave HP a 33.6 percent market share in the desktop and mobile market and a 34.7 percent share of the desktop space alone.
“We continue to grow our business and achieve excellent results across all form factors, despite the dynamic competitive arena,” said Christoph Schell, GM, HP Personal Systems Group (PSG). “As operations at HP’s PC plant in the Kingdom take off, we expect more orders to start rolling in. We have a commitment to home-grown technology in the Arab world and are confident that the assembly plant will cater to the booming business needs in the market.”
