JAKARTA, 21 February 2004 — A 21-year-old Indonesian boxer died from a brain hemorrhage this week, making him the country’s second boxing casualty this year and the sport’s ninth victim in less than four years, news reports said yesterday.

Jack Ryan died Thursday morning after being in a coma for five days following a non-title fight last Saturday at Jakarta’s Rajawali Boxing Center in which the young pugilist received numerous blows to the head, said The Jakarta Post.

Another Indonesian boxer Antonius Moses Seram died on Jan. 20 from a brain hemorrhage after being knocked out by Thai pugilist Kaichon Sor Vorapin.

Nine Indonesian boxers have died from injuries sustained in boxing bouts since the year 2000.
