Tahir Helps KAIA to Clinch SGB Cup

JEDDAH, 12 March 2004 — KAIA beat Attar Travels comfortably by 32 runs in the finals of Div II which is sponsored by SGB Baroom and organized by the Jeddah Cricket League (JCL) at the Kanoo ground. KAIA elected to bat first and scored a mammoth 200 for 7 in their allotted 20 over. Tahir, their prominent batsman who scored a century in the quarterfinals, punished Attar bowlers with shots all round the ground in his polished 122 runs.

He was run out while attempting to grab yet another quick single.

Ghufran fell in the second over after scoring 5 runs when the total was 20, and M. Zamim came in and scored 45 runs. Tahir and Zamim put up a valuable 125 runs partnership. Rais of Attar took 3 wickets for 51 runs.

Facing a target of 200 runs, Attar batsmen crumbled to 168 for 8 in their allotted 20 over. Shoeb and Ghufran did the damage to Attar taking 4 for 29 and 3 for 28 respectively, while Lasanta and Arif took one wicket each for 25 and 26 runs respectively.

Abrar Mateen, the wicketkeeper had a good day with a tally of 4 victims behind the stumps.

Attar batsmen tried their best to penetrate the strong fielders of KAIA but failed to do so, with only Sadiq scoring a valuable 49 runs and Rais 22 and Saeed 24 lending support .
