JEDDAH, 14 March 2004 — The Jeddah team is readying itself for the forthcoming division contest of Toastmasters in the Western and Central Regions on April 16.
According to Governor Joey Villanueva of Area 11, which groups Jeddah’s six toastmaster clubs, the team this year is composed of Jose Poovathinkal of HOPE Toastmasters Club; S.M. Fawzi of PACE Toastmasters Club; K.G. Guna (HOPE Toastmasters); and Ben Guerra of Tanglaw Toastmasters.
Poovathinkal emerged as champion in the international speech category during the March 5 contest of representatives of Jeddah clubs.
Fawzi grabbed “best humorous speech”. K.G. Guna won “table topics”. In the evaluation contest, Ben Guerra came first. The event was sponsored by Mosaco, Shifa Polyclinic and Flowers by Astra Farms.
Winners in the division contests will compete in the Gulf district contest to be held in Kuwait on May 13.
Toastmasters is a public speaking organization headquartered in the US.
Youth Leadership Program
Jubail Toastmasters club recently organized a Youth Leadership Program for school children.
The program included speeches by students and entertainment. Participants were encouraged to learn leadership skills at seminars with educators and motivational speakers.
