JUBAIL, 18 March 2004 — The Jubail Toastmasters organized a Youth Leadership Program to transfer some of the benefits of the International Toastmasters program to the younger generation.

The YLP committee under the chairmanship of Shahul Hameed organized a full schedule of events divided into eight sessions. The program consisted of structured activities meant to challenge the schoolchildren to try new skills in the hope of finding hidden talents.

Initially it was the students who were entertained in the program but slowly the youngsters found that they were the ones giving the speeches and making the presentations.

The program hosted one special guest in Abdul Razaq Ali Al-Turki, an activist for individuals with disabilities, who gave an inspirational talk on making the most of one’s abilities.

In the youth speech contest held at the end of the YLP, Class 9 student Anisha Landge was the Master of Ceremony and Nikita Sarkar and Anusha Moorthy won the titles of champion speakers.

Part of the YLP was an initiative to bring various professionals in the Jubail area to meet with the students to discuss future career choices. Before the end of the event the students were polled to discover what interests they might have that could be the focus of future events.

Community service, sports and recreation, career mapping, field trips and debates were found to be areas of keen interest that can be developed to bring some enjoyment and feelings of satisfaction into the lives of the youngsters in Jubail.
