Bangladesh emerged as an independent state on March 26 in 1971 at the cost of immense sacrifices of millions of martyrs and sufferings of innocent people.

Their supreme sacrifices has paved the way of our independence and brought us an opportunity to stand in the comity of the nations of the world with dignity and pride.

On the auspicious occasion of our 33rd independence and National Day, I pay tribute to the martyrs and take the opportunity to felicitate all Bangladeshis, living at home and abroad.

The main spirit of our nine-month long struggle for independence was to establish a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh free from deprivation and exploitation.

We are continuing our efforts toward materializing the dreams of the martyrs into reality to establish a democratic society free from terror and corruption.

Concerted effort of all Bangladeshis is a must to achieve this goal. I call upon the people to help the present democratic and pro-people government and to contribute toward the process of development of the country.

Bangladeshis living abroad are playing an important role in the socio-economic development of the country through their contributions in our national earnings as well as building the image of the country.

I call upon them to remain vigilant against a few who are out to damage the image of the country abroad.

On this 33rd independence and National Day I wish all Bangladeshis both at home and abroad peace, prosperity and happiness.

Bangladesh Zindabad

Allah Hafiz.
