ISLAMABAD: In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Pakistan’s deaf cricket team soared to victory in the Twenty20 World Cup held at the Cricket Vision Center in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates, from March 6 to 12, said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday.
The event was arranged by the Deaf International Cricket Council (DICC) and led to an intense competition among six cricketing powerhouses, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Australia.
Dominating the fourth edition of the DICC T20 World Cup, the Pakistani team remained an indomitable force, outclassing their opponents in every match to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament. Their crowning moment came in the final showdown against Sri Lanka, where they delivered a masterclass in cricket, winning by a staggering 88 runs.
“Congratulations to the Pakistan Deaf Cricket Team for winning the DICC T20 World Cup 2024,” the PCB announced on social media while sharing photographs of the team celebrating.
The final was a testament to the team’s formidable prowess as they set a challenging target of 151 runs.
The bowlers then took center stage, decimating the Sri Lankan batting lineup and skittling them out for a paltry 63 runs in just 16.5 overs, sealing a monumental victory.
Pakistani athletes have also been regularly participating in Paralympics since the country first sent them to compete in 1992.
