JEDDAH, 21 May 2004 — All the grounds at JCL Complex underwent maintenance under the supervision of Aijaz Ahmed Khan who has been in charge of this department for more than seven years.

The maintenance work will be completed by this weekend.

The grounds were cleaned and watered. Leveling and rolling had been done for the outfield with 25-ton compactor and a 9-ton compactor was used around the cement wicket edges. All the concrete pitches were washed thoroughly and inner and outer boundaries marked with the wet lime powder.

The access roads and the approach from ground to ground have been completed and all the pavilions cleaned to as the knockout stage matches and the forthcoming under 19 clubs Thursday tournament and the Summer League is set to get under way.

When asked about the development of sightscreens and pavilions, Aijaz Khan says, "being a cricketer I'm duty-bound to give the best facilities to the boys.

I played cricket in India and in the Kingdom and have seen different methods to keep the grounds up to international standards, including the shape of the ground, inner & outer boundaries, the complexion of the pitches and the color of the epoxy coating which gives the look of green grass wickets in the desert and its liveliness of a slight bounce and little turn while bowling spin."

Beginning next Friday, lots of runs are expected from the forthcoming matches as the grounds are rolled and compacted well, he added.
